I know all of the Kimberley schools are considering how to use their students first language/s to help them learn. This is as important in RE as it is in any other learning area. At one of the schools I visited, one of the teachers showed me this book their class had made of the 10 Commandments. As you can see from the images, the students wrote the commandments in SAE and in Aboriginal English and then illustrated them. What other ways can you think of using EAL/D strategies in the RE classroom?
An RE teachers in one of our schools showed me this activity she did with her students. After discussing how good and bad choices make us feel, students collaged and graffitied heart shapes with their ideas of good and bad choices.
First, a warning...
I have never blogged in my life, so I am learning as I go. However, as I am fortunate enough to be able to travel around the Kimberleys and work with all sorts of different RECs and RE teachers, I am constantly inspired by their work. This is where I would like to share their work with you as a springboard for your own use. I'd also love it if you could share your own inspirations in RE, so let's start blogging! |
About meI have been in Broome since August 2013 as the RE Consultant, after working in the Perth office for 3 1/2 years. Before that I was an acting Principal, APRE, and proud early years teacher. Archives
